Today’s industry standard is 18% Nickel Silver (German Silver), offering a balanced combination of hardness, workability, and tone. Stainless Steel provides significantly higher hardness and wear resistance, virtually eliminating premature fret wear and extending service life.

Using fret wire with the correct alloy and hardness helps prevent buzzing, intonation issues, and loss of playability caused by wear, reducing the need for frequent leveling or refretting.
