Alnico 5 magnets have been used in guitar pickups since the 1950s and continue to be used to this day. They are characterized by a strong magnetic field, and pickups with these magnets offer a bright, glassy, yet full tone with a pronounced attack.

South-up polarization, most commonly used in bridge and neck position pickups.
