What hardware parts are needed to build a guitar?

Acoustic, classical, or electric guitar, as well as bass, have several crucial parts they need to work properly. Guitar strings need some kind of attachment on both ends so they can resonate when plucked. On the instrument body, there should be a string tailpiece and a bridge. Quite often we can see a bridge with a tailpiece integrated into one part. On the other end of the strings usually, there are some string winding pegs also known as tuners or machines. The neck attaches to the guitar body with some wood screws and neck plate or ferrules. On the neck, we can also find a nut or sometimes a locking nut when the guitar is equipped with a double locking tremolo. To mount the electronics a scratchplate or pickguard is used which also protects the instrument finish from scratching. You would need also some potentiometers knobs, a jack plate, and strap buttons as well as many different size nuts and bolts to put everything together.
Electric instruments require also some kind of transducer to turn the vibrations of the strings to an electrical signal.

What is a guitar or bass bridge?

A bridge is a device where we attach the strings to the instrument body. Sometimes it can be separated into the string tailpiece and a bridge and sometimes it is all in one part. There are different bridge styles found on guitars and some of them allow to bend or lower the note you play. They are called tremolo systems and usually, they have some kind of arm to pull the strings. The most popular tremolo systems are a traditional Fender style tremolo, Floyd Rose tremolo, and Bigsby.
Standard bridges vary by design and application. The most popular are Tune-o-Matic often found on Gibson guitars, Fender Telecaster, and hardtail bridges.

What kind of tuners are found on a guitar?

There are several tuner designs available. Different guitars use different tuners because of their design and the strings they are using. There are tuners dedicated to classical guitars to use with nylon or similar strings. For steel-string guitars, there are some popular tuners available designed by Kluson, Grover, Gotoh, and Schaller companies. Most of other guitar tuner makers copy their designs so the tuners can be easily upgraded without a need to modify your instrument.

What are the nuts and saddles made of?

The most popular material for nuts and saddles is natural bone but there are also many other good materials available like brass or NuBone and Tusq by Graph Tech. They come in many different shapes and sizes as ready to install parts or blanks. This small piece can have a big influence on the tone of your guitar and affects playability as well.

What other parts would I need to build a guitar?

There are many small parts needed to complete a guitar. Many styles of jack plates, pickguards, neck plates, strap buttons, string ferrules, potentiometer knobs, and some other parts. The list can go on and on but it all depends on a guitar you have or going to build.
