If you want to play with your friends you will probably also need a guitar strap. Picks are often used for bass or a guitar and might be important for you as they do change the sound. There are available protective bags and cases for carrying your instruments as well as care and maintenance products to keep them in good condition. Let's look at some most popular guitar and bass accessories.

Should I buy some spare strings?

As we play our instruments mostly with our hands the strings tend to break and it is absolutely normal thing. However, it may be frustrating when the string breaks exactly when you want to play or practice. Therefore we suggest having at least one spare set of strings with you.

Do I need a guitar strap?

If you want to play in a band situation you should always play and practice with the strap on and get used to it. If you play mostly at home, sitting on your chair or sofa you don't need a strap however it can still protect your instrument. Holding a guitar or bass on a strap is very convenient when you need to plug in some cables or change settings on your amplifier.

What cables do I need?

If you play an electric guitar/bass you would need at least one cable to connect your instrument with an amplifier. A good quality cable not only looks good and lasts for a long time. Quality cables have better shielding and solid plugs to make sure you will sound the best you can. Patch cables are used to connect your effects and you can make or upgrade your own cables using quality plugs.

What is a capo or slide?

Capo is used to play the songs you know in higher pitch using the same chord shapes. A very useful tool if you can't sing in the original key.
A guitar slide is a bar or more often a glass or steel tube you wear on one of your fingers. It allows for seamless pitch change. Slides are used mostly in blues and country music.

How should I care for and maintain my guitar?

There are a number of care products to clean and protect your instrument. You should regularly clean your guitar finish, strings, and hardware with products that are designed specifically for each job. This will help to keep your instrument in good shape so it will never let you down.

What picks should I use?

There is no answer to this question as everyone prefers different picks. Sometimes one person uses different picks depending on a situation or an instrument they play. Guitar picks are mostly cheap so we suggest buying a handful of them try them out. You will be surprised how much they can change a feel or sound of a guitar. Pick holders come in handy for someone who likes to keep things in place.

How can I tune my guitar?

The easiest way is to use a tuner - a small electronic device that will tell you if your guitar is in tune. Most popular are clip-on tuners that you can attach to the instrument headstock. Some of them come with a metronome built-in, a clever tool to help you play with the beat.

What other accessories are available?

There is a lot of tools and accessories for guitar or bass like humidification, soundhole covers, peg winders, guitar stands, strap-locks, guitar multi-tools, cleaning rags and many other that you don't really need to play the guitar. They are quite useful however and therefore are usually a great idea for a gift.
